Sue and Lee Mullen from Grimsby are some of our newest winners after winning a £4.8 million share of the jackpot on 4th February. Find out how a Lucky Dip resulted in a broken laptop.
Descriptor: First we meet Anya Reynolds, who represents Camelot, standing in parkland. As she speaks about Sue and Lee Mullen, we see them inside a large building, holding glasses of champagne.
Anya Reynolds: We’re here to meet Sue and Lee Mullen who won, ah, £4.8 million pounds on Friday night on EuroMillions, um, exceptionally nice people, em, have had a really tough life and this is going to make just the most amazing difference to them and their family. And we are looking forward to meeting them a bit later on with the press.
Descriptor: We now see Sue and Lee Mullen at the press conference. As Lee speaks, we see Sue and Lee standing next to a car holding an oversized National Lottery cheque, having their photo taken, before once again going back to them at the press conference.
Lee Mullen: We bought the ticket on Friday, so for the last six weeks we’ve been doing it every week, every time there’s a lottery on, Wednesdays to Fridays, that we’ve been doing it. And, em, we didn’t know how much money we actually had, so we thought we’d have a burst, now we’re going to do a Lucky Dip. Saturday morning about, about, I think it was about half past nine, quarter to ten, I was in, I was actually, me personally I was having a shower, and me wife was in the front room and she says, "Oh, I’ll check the numbers". So she’s sat down on the table and she’s checking the, the numbers, and she put them in. And she just, just, started screaming and shouting, and I thought there was something wrong. And so I jumped out the shower, went in, and she kept hitting the return button, nearly pushed it through the table to be honest, she said, "I have to check it".
Sue Mullen: It’s broke, isn’t it?
Lee Mullen: Yeah, she actually broke the button on the laptop.
Descriptor: We now see Sue and Lee Mullen standing together in front of some trees, Sue holding a champagne glass, while Lee sprays champagne from a bottle into the air, before we see a wide shot of them being photographed. Next we see them, once again, at the press conference.
Lee Mullen: When we first moved to Grimsby we didn’t have anything, and our first rented property we, I’m not joking, we didn’t have no furniture, no nothing. And, em, religiously, every week we used to do the, the lottery. And when my daughter was born, we, one simply, we didn’t have enough money to do the lottery. And unfortunately all six numbers what we did religiously every week came in, and we was totally gutted is an understatement, we thought that’s our chance gone, finished, so we just didn’t bother. And then that said we.
Sue Mullen: Dream, dream at Christmas...
Lee Mullen: Me wife had a dream at Christmas that she was going to win the lottery and...
Sue Mullen: £4.6 million though...
Lee Mullen: Yeah, it was, and...
Sue Mullen: I was pretty close.
Lee Mullen: Yeah.
Descriptor: We now see Sue and Lee Mullen, once again standing together in front of some trees, both holding up National Lottery glasses filled with champagne as they are photographed, before each taking a sip from their glasses.
Sue Mullen: I could get used to this.
Lee Mullen: Yes.
