Many ways to play
*Since 1994 there have been more than 370,000 grants made – figure sourced from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport. © National Lottery Commission 2012.
Descriptor: First we pan down from a grey, clouded sky to a wide shot of the Olympic Park being built. We then see large trucks driving at the site, before various shots of the jackpot winning volunteers on the site.
Narrator: With the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games drawing ever nearer, preparations and developments within the Olympic Park are continuing to gather pace. And to help with the preparations, the site was recently visited by a workforce of a rather more unusual kind; a group of National Lottery jackpot winners.
Descriptor: We now see various shots of the jackpot winners being photographed and being shown around the site.
Narrator: The visit was organised to celebrate raising £550 million for London 2012 through sales of specially designated National Lottery games - a landmark achievement in the run up to the big event.
Descriptor: We now see the jackpot winners beginning to lay the foundations for the frog ponds, lifting and laying large logs.
Narrator: Eighteen National Lottery winners, who have won an amazing £33.6 million between them, gathered for a day to lay the foundations for frog ponds. This was part of the development of the wetlands area legacy work being carried out within the Olympic Park in Stratford.
Descriptor: We now meet Alan Rowley, who won a £1.9 million National Lottery jackpot, as indicated by the caption.
Alan Rowley: Well we’re creating, um, a wildlife area for frogs, ah, this area’s going to be flooded by the river and, and it’s going to create some nice pond areas and wetlands for frogs and toads.
Descriptor: We once again see the jackpot winners moving the large logs, before being introduced to Dean and Louise Allen, who won a £13.8 million National Lottery jackpot as indicated by the caption.
Dean Allen: We chose to come along today because we live quite local, um, it’s less than a thirty minute drive for us and we’ve, we’d sort of decided already that we’d like to come along to, um, to the park when it’s up and running, and hopefully bring our kids down.
Descriptor: We once again see the jackpot winners moving the large logs, before being introduced to Barbara Derry, who won a £2.3 million National Lottery jackpot as indicated by the caption.
Barbara Derry: It’s just nice to get involved and it is, the Olympics are, it’s something that is going to be around for a long time, so to get the opportunity to come down here, so it’s nice to be able to sort of say, well I was part of that.
Descriptor: We now see a wide shot of the jackpot winners with Joe Swift, before we see a close up of him standing with the jackpot winners.
Narrator: Helping to oversee the volunteers’ handy work was TV presenter and garden designer Joe Swift.
Descriptor: We now meet Joe Swift, who describes why this area is being made. The caption reads "Joe Swift, TV Presenter & Garden Designer".
Joe Swift: A lot of the intention is to try and increase, um, you know, wildlife species, bring them in, create the right environment, so they’re going to start flocking in. So, ah, frogs, kingfishers, there’s even like an otter, um, an otter habitat they’re creating, hoping otters, which is fantastic, bringing them into Stratford, you know, almost into, right into the middle of London.
Descriptor: We once again see shots of the jackpot winners moving large logs with Joe Swift.
Joe Swift: Right, there you go. Last one. Job well done.
Narrator: Some time, and a fair bit of heavy lifting later, the task was complete. So how had the jackpot winners enjoyed their Olympic experience?
Descriptor: We now meet Barbara Derry once again, who explains how her day has been.
Barbara Derry: I thought it was good actually, I think it went quite well, it’s, um, it’s nice to sort of do something that you know is going to be useful. So yeah, it was, ah, it was good fun, really enjoyed it.
Descriptor: We now see the jackpot winners getting onto a bus, together with various shots of them travelling on the bus as they go on a tour of the Olympic Park. Finally we see a wide shot of the Olympic Park.
Narrator: So a job well done by all. And the reward? Apart from the satisfaction of having made an important contribution to the park’s legacy work of course, a special tour of the Olympic Park. Not bad for a day’s work.
