Descriptor: First we see a blue map of the UK on a red graphic background, which zooms to Overton on the map, where a white caption reads, "Overton Park Pond Lottery Funding - £46,846" We then see various shots of Overton Park, including shots of the scenery, before we see a shot of a cabin and some tents. Following that, we see shots of the pond, before focusing in on a blue oval sign on a wooden gate, which reads, "Awarded National Lottery Funding." We then see another wide shot of the pond.
Narrator: Nestled away in the Peak District, Derbyshire lies Overton Park. Set in five acres of beautiful countryside, the park is primarily used to accommodate groups of schoolchildren who come to the area to camp and take part in outward bound activities. However, despite these idyllic surroundings, there was one area of Overton Park that was hidden away from the public, the pond. In 2007, the park was awarded just over £46,000 in funding made possible through the sales of National Lottery games, which was put towards transforming this much neglected area.
Descriptor: We now meet Andy White, who is a Project Manager for Nottinghamshire Council, sitting on a bench inside the park. As he speaks about the facility, we see various areas of the park.
Andy White: The pond itself dates back to Victorian times but in the last eight, nine years, with the support of The National Lottery, we've developed this into a great area and facility for young people. From here, it's an excellent base for them to go into the Dales, climbing, water sports; a massive amount of activity is available, away from computers, away from television sets.
Descriptor: As the narrator speaks, we now see stills of the pond and surrounding area before the refurbishment took place.
Narrator: Prior to the funding, Andrew White and his team had attempted to clear the pond themselves, but the job was just too big.
Descriptor: Once again we meet Andy White, who describes the problems that they faced when they started to work on the pond area.
Andy White: It was so much overgrown, it hadn't been actually looked after for maybe 75, 100 years.
Descriptor: Once again we see old stills of the pond, before moving on to a shot of the modernised pond area, with a bridge over the water, paths and seating.
Narrator: With the help of funding raised through the sale of National Lottery games, they were able to employ a landscaping company to clear the area and make all the planned improvements.
Descriptor: Once again we meet Andy White, who explains the importance of the lottery funding. As he speaks, we see close up shots of various aspects of the pond, for example, the decking, the stream, flowers and plants in the area, as well as the lifebelts that have been installed at various points, the seating area, the new playground area for children and the new breeze house.
Andy White: With the great help of the funding from The National Lottery, we've built a pathway all the way round here with decking, two bridges over and a little stream that comes into the pond. For safety reasons, we had to put some lifebelts and throw lines around the edges. We also have installed quite a few benches for people to come and sit and relax. We put a great emphasis onto a children's playground and also a lovely breeze house. Now that we've had the funding from The National Lottery to open up this pond area we, the children can now be educated outside the classroom. It's an absolutely beautiful environment to learn from.
Descriptor: As the narrator speaks, we now see various shots of the animals and plants that are in the area, including a close up shot of a field of bluebells, before panning across the renovated pond.
Narrator: This area of outstanding natural beauty has been greatly enhanced by the Overton Pond, welcoming back all kinds of wildlife and plants. It's all thanks to funding you've helped raise by playing National Lottery games, that it was possible to restore this pond for everyone in the local community to enjoy.
Descriptor: For the final time we meet Andy White, who discusses the importance of Overton Park and the pond for families. As he speaks we see one final wide shot of the pond.
Andy White: It's a place where they can relax, it's a focal point, they can come down here on nice summer's evenings and bring the children. It focuses a small village into one particular and lovely part.
Descriptor: Finally we see a white background with a National Lottery logo, together with a Big Lottery Fund logo, and a blue caption which reads, "Lottery Funded."
