Descriptor: First we see a graphic map of Europe, before zooming in to Cardiff. The map graphic then fades and we meet Jennie Bond. As Jennie speaks, we see shots of the Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre, including shots of office staff working.

Jennie Bond: I’m here in Cardiff to visit the Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre, Wales. Now a few months ago the centre applied for a National Lottery Grant, to train up more therapists so they can go out in the community and continue their fantastic work.

Descriptor: We now see a children receiving treatment at Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre before meeting Gail Griffiths, who is a Fundraising Manager.

Gail Griffiths: Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre, Wales, provides specialist therapy to children from all over Wales who have cerebral palsy.

Descriptor: Once again we see children receiving treatment, before meeting Jenny Carroll, who is the Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre’s Director. As she speaks, we see children receiving treatment.

Jenny Carroll: Cerebral palsy is really a collection of conditions, so it’s anywhere where there’s been damage to a developing brain. It can affect your motor control, how you walk, move your arms, read and write, it can also affect your sensation, it can affect your vision, it can affect your perception and how you perceive the world.

Descriptor: We now see Jennie Bond watching different children undergoing their treatment.

Jennie Bond: Bobath therapy sessions are tailored to each individual child, and aim to maximise their skills, and so improve the quality of life, not only for the child, but also for the family.

Descriptor: We now meet Scott and Leanne Bessant, who have a child receiving treatment at the centre. As Leanne speaks, we see her son sitting on the floor with two of the centre’s workers and Jennie Bond.

Leanne Bessant: Without centres like this, he wouldn’t have developed on to his full potential. So, for people like us and, and, most certainly for (inaudible) it’s, it’s essential.

Descriptor: We now see a young girl receiving treatment, as her mother Paula Masters looks on.

Paula Masters: We’ve, um, gone away from this, my husband and I, feeling so much more skilled in what we do with them. Because you want to know that what you’re doing at home has a benefit and they teach you fantastically here.

Descriptor: We now see a close up shot of a sign which reads, “Fundraising Office,” followed by shots of the fundraising office staff. We then meet Glenys Evans, who is a Family Support Co-ordinator at Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre. As Glenys speaks, we see a boy receiving therapy.

Glenys Evans: If we could secure more longer-term funding for the future, we would be able to employ therapist staff. And that, in turn, would allow us to see more and more children.

Descriptor: We now see Jennie Bond entering a room where staff members, parents and children have gathered.

Jennie Bond: So I think it’s time to surprise them with some good news.

Descriptor: We now see Jennie reveal an oversized cheque, and we see various shots of surprised and delighted staff, parents and children.

Jennie Bond: I just want to say thanks so much for showing me round the centre. But what you don’t know is that I’m actually here on behalf of the National Lottery. And I’ve got a very good bit of news for you. I want to tell you that you have been awarded a grant by the Big Lottery Fund of £96,722.

Descriptor: We now see shots of the staff, parents and children smiling, before once again meeting Jenny Carroll.

Jenny Carroll: Fantastic surprise, so that means twenty-four therapists that work in Wales will be trained in the Bobath approach, which means the work that we do in the centre will be carried on for the children when they’re in the community receiving therapy there as well.

Descriptor: We see more shots of staff, parents and children smiling and laughing, before we again meet Glenys Evans.

Glenys Evans: It’s just absolutely amazing, and I just really can’t take it on board and it’s, em, absolutely wonderful news.

Descriptor: Once again we see the staff, parents and children of the centre celebrating, before meeting Gail Griffiths for the final time.

Gail Griffiths: To raise this sort of money, it just wouldn’t have happened without the lottery funding. Thank you so much.

Descriptor: Finally, we see a boy smiling.
